In jenen Tagen erließ Kaiser Augustus den Befehl, alle Bewohner des Reiches in Steuerlisten einzutragen.
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
Ðây là cuộc kiểm tra đầu tiên, thực hiện thời Quirinô làm thủ hiến xứ Syria.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
để khai kiểm tra cùng với Maria, bạn người, đang có thai.

He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
Sự việc xảy ra trong lúc ông bà đang ở đó, là Maria đã tới ngày mãn nguyệt khai hoa,

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
và bà đã hạ sinh con trai đầu lòng. Bà bọc con trẻ trong khăn vải và đặt nằm trong máng cỏ, vì hai ông bà không tìm được chỗ trong hàng quán.
und sie gebar ihren Sohn, den Erstgeborenen. Sie wickelte ihn in Windeln und legte ihn in eine Krippe, weil in der Herberge kein Platz für sie war.
and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Bấy giờ trong miền đó có những mục tử đang ở ngoài đồng và thức đêm để canh giữ đoàn vật mình.
In jener Gegend lagerten Hirten auf freiem Feld und hielten Nachtwache bei ihrer Herde.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
Bỗng có thiên thần Chúa hiện ra đứng gần bên họ, và ánh quang của Thiên Chúa bao toả chung quanh họ, khiến họ hết sức kinh sợ.
Da trat der Engel des Herrn zu ihnen, und der Glanz des Herrn umstrahlte sie. Sie fürchteten sich sehr,
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
Nhưng thiên thần Chúa đã bảo họ rằng: “Các ngươi đừng sợ, đây ta mang đến cho các ngươi một tin mừng đặc biệt, đó cũng là tin mừng cho cả toàn dân:
der Engel aber sagte zu ihnen: Fürchtet euch nicht, denn ich verkünde euch eine große Freude, die dem ganzen Volk zuteil werden soll:
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Hôm nay Chúa Kitô, Ðấng Cứu Thế, đã giáng sinh cho các ngươi trong thành của Ðavít.
Heute ist euch in der Stadt Davids der Retter geboren; er ist der Messias, der Herr.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Và đây là dấu hiệu để các ngươi nhận biết Người: Các ngươi sẽ thấy một hài nhi mới sinh, bọc trong khăn vải và đặt nằm trong máng cỏ”.
Und das soll euch als Zeichen dienen: Ihr werdet ein Kind finden, das, in Windeln gewickelt, in einer Krippe liegt.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Và bỗng chốc, cùng với các thiên thần, có một số đông thuộc đạo binh thiên quốc đồng thanh hát khen Chúa rằng:
Und plötzlich war bei dem Engel ein großes himmlisches Heer, das Gott lobte und sprach:
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Vinh danh Thiên Chúa trên các tầng trời, và bình an dưới thế cho người thiện tâm”.
Verherrlicht ist Gott in der Höhe, und auf Erden ist Friede bei den Menschen seiner Gnade.
"Glory to God in the highest heaven,and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

Lúc khởi đầu đã có Ngôi Lời. Ngôi Lời vẫn hướng về Thiên Chúa, và Ngôi Lời là Thiên Chúa.
Im Anfang war das Wort, und das Wort war bei Gott, und das Wort war Gott.
From the first he was the Word, and the Word was in relation with God and was God.
Lúc khởi đầu, Người vẫn hướng về Thiên Chúa.
Im Anfang war es bei Gott.
This Word was from the first in relation with God.
Nhờ Ngôi Lời, vạn vật được tạo thành, và không có Người, thì chẳng có gì được tạo thành. Điều đã được tạo thành
Alles ist durch das Wort geworden, und ohne das Wort wurde nichts, was geworden ist.
All things came into existence through him, and without him nothing was.
ở nơi Người là sự sống, và sự sống là ánh sáng cho nhân loại.
In ihm war das Leben, und das Leben war das Licht der Menschen.
What came into existence in him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Ánh sáng chiếu soi trong bóng tối, và bóng tối đã không diệt được ánh sáng.
Und das Licht leuchtet in der Finsternis, und die Finsternis hat es nicht erfasst.
And the light goes on shining in the dark; it is not overcome by the dark.
Có một người được Thiên Chúa sai đến, tên là Gio-an.
Es trat ein Mensch auf, der von Gott gesandt war; sein Name war Johannes.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
Ông đến để làm chứng, và làm chứng về ánh sáng, để mọi người nhờ ông mà tin.
Er kam als Zeuge, um Zeugnis abzulegen für das Licht, damit alle durch ihn zum Glauben kommen.
He came for witness, to give witness about the light, so that all men might have faith through him.
Ông không phải là ánh sáng, nhưng ông đến để làm chứng về ánh sáng.
Er war nicht selbst das Licht, er sollte nur Zeugnis ablegen für das Licht.
He himself was not the light: he was sent to give witness about the light.
Ngôi Lời là ánh sáng thật, ánh sáng đến thế gian và chiếu soi mọi người.
Das wahre Licht, das jeden Menschen erleuchtet, kam in die Welt.
The true light, which gives light to every man, was then coming into the world.
Người ở giữa thế gian, và thế gian đã nhờ Người mà có, nhưng lại không nhận biết Người.
Er war in der Welt, und die Welt ist durch ihn geworden, aber die Welt erkannte ihn nicht.
He was in the world, the world which came into being through him, but the world had no knowledge of him.
Người đã đến nhà mình, nhưng người nhà chẳng chịu đón nhận.

He came to the things which were his and his people did not take him to their hearts.
Còn những ai đón nhận, tức là những ai tin vào danh Người, thì Người cho họ quyền trở nên con Thiên Chúa.
Allen aber, die ihn aufnahmen, gab er Macht, Kinder Gottes zu werden, allen, die an seinen Namen glauben,
To all those who did so take him, however, he gave the right of becoming children of God--that is, to those who had faith in his name:
Họ được sinh ra, không phải do khí huyết, cũng chẳng do ước muốn của nhục thể, hoặc do ước muốn của người đàn ông, nhưng do bởi Thiên Chúa.
die nicht aus dem Blut, nicht aus dem Willen des Fleisches, nicht aus dem Willen des Mannes, sondern aus Gott geboren sind.
Whose birth was from God and not from blood, or from an impulse of the flesh and man's desire.
Ngôi Lời đã trở nên người phàm và cư ngụ giữa chúng ta. Chúng tôi đã được nhìn thấy vinh quang của Người, vinh quang mà Chúa Cha ban cho Người, là Con Một đầy tràn ân sủng và sự thật.
Und das Wort ist Fleisch geworden und hat unter uns gewohnt, und wir haben seine Herrlichkeit gesehen, die Herrlichkeit des einzigen Sohnes vom Vater, voll Gnade und Wahrheit.
And so the Word became flesh and took a place among us for a time; and we saw his glory--such glory as is given to an only son by his father--saw it to be true and full of grace.
Ông Gio-an làm chứng về Người, ông tuyên bố: “Đây là Đấng mà tôi đã nói: Người đến sau tôi, nhưng trổi hơn tôi, vì có trước tôi.”

John gave witness about him, crying, This is he of whom I said, He who is coming after me is put over me because he was in existence before me.
Từ nguồn sung mãn của Người, tất cả chúng ta đã lãnh nhận hết ơn này đến ơn khác.
Aus seiner Fülle haben wir alle empfangen, Gnade über Gnade.
From his full measure we have all been given grace on grace.
Quả thế, Lề Luật đã được Thiên Chúa ban qua ông Mô-sê, còn ân sủng và sự thật, thì nhờ Đức Giê-su Ki-tô mà có.
Denn das Gesetz wurde durch Mose gegeben, die Gnade und die Wahrheit kamen durch Jesus Christus.
For the law was given through Moses; grace and the true way of life are ours through Jesus Christ.
Thiên Chúa, chưa bao giờ có ai thấy cả; nhưng Con Một vốn là Thiên Chúa và là Đấng hằng ở nơi cung lòng Chúa Cha, chính Người đã tỏ cho chúng ta biết.
Niemand hat Gott je gesehen. Der Einzige, der Gott ist und am Herzen des Vaters ruht, er hat Kunde gebracht.
No man has seen God at any time; the only Son, who is on the breast of the Father, he has made clear what God is.
